Week 15 on the CASE challenge, and we’re really getting festive now. This week’s inspiration was the winter sketch of a gorgeous card by Chris Smith, more info here. As soon as I saw this card, I knew exactly how I wanted to CASE it. I’ve fallen completely in love with the Snowflake Showcase suite of products, only available during November. I knew the snowflakes would work perfectly with this design.
I started with some thick Whisper White as my base, and used a layer of Night of Navy under another strip of normal Whisper White card. Rather than embossing, I chose the snowflakes falling stamp from the Snow is Glistening set, stamped along the top with Night of Navy ink. I then stamped the “Merry Christmas” sentiment from the same set again in Night of Navy, and stamped some snowflakes along the side and bottom in the same colour. I then switched to Balmy Blue for the paler blue snowflakes, to give depth and shading. I cut the whole thing out with a thinlit from the Layering Ovals collection.
I used the same colours to stamp on coordinating cardstock, then used the matching thinlits to cut out the snowflakes. I added some sprigs of silver using yet another thinlit from this collection. The final flourish was one of the Snowflake Trinkets from this suite, which are simply stunning and add a bit of bling to the card, but are still thin enough to allow your creations to be easily posted. I glued all of the card and metal embellishments on to my oval, then used foam dimensionals to mount it to the front of my card. It took a couple of goes arranging the positioning, to make sure the whole card could still go in an envelope when I’m done!
